All texas cattle marks and brands are set to expire on August 30, 2021 and brand owners will be required to renew during the 6-month renewal period, which ends February 28, 2022.
Brand owners who do not renew within the renewal period will forfeit ownership of their marks and brands and all unrecorded brands will be available to the general public on a first-come basis.

The Texas Agriculture Code, Section 144.041 to 144.044, states "a livestock owner is required to have distinct earmarks and brands, which shall be recorded with the county clerk in which the livestock are located."
It also states that not later than six months after August 30, 1981, and every 10th year thereafter, each livestock owner shall record his marks and brands with the clerk, regardless of whether they were previously recorded.
The Kaufman County Clerk's Office has the records for all the brands ever recorded in the office. Registered marks and brands are also sent to the Texas State Cattle Association.
