Do I need a building permit?

A building permit application is required to:

  • construct a new building,
  • substantially improve an existing building, or
  • change the use or occupancy type of an existing building.

All plans submitted to the Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office must be stamped by a licensed design professional (architect or engineer).

Square Footage (Gross) x Cost per Square Foot (see chart below) x .003 (0.3%) = Permit Fee
